ArcSoft Optimizes Several of its Best-Selling Applications for New AMD A-Series APU

Accelerated video playback, faster file conversion, and enhanced processing speeds on PCs

— 6/14/2011 — Fremont, California —

ArcSoft, Inc., the world-leading multimedia software provider, announced today its optimization for AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) technology in several of ArcSoft’s best-selling products: TotalMedia Theatre 5, MediaConverter 7, and Showbiz 5. With the latest AMD A-Series APU architecture and ArcSoft applications, users get the ultimate HD viewing experience and premium performance with enhanced processing speeds on their PCs.

Leveraging the power of the on-chip UVD3 decoding engine within the A-Series APU, ArcSoft takes advantage of hardware acceleration, offloading typically CPU-intensive decoding to the on-chip discrete-class GPU while playing back Blu-ray 3D™, the newly accelerated MPEG4 ASP profile, and other popular file formats on several applications.

AMD APUs plus support for OpenCL™ (Open Computing Language) standards enables the GPU to work seamlessly with the central processing unit (CPU) to accelerate applications. OpenCL is an open standard and framework that allows programs to execute on a heterogeneous platform. The result is a well-balanced, but enhanced platform capable of running demanding computing tasks.

With OpenCL-based, ArcSoft in-house SimHD and Sim3D technologies, ArcSoft’s TotalMedia Theatre 5 can now fully utilize the system resources (CPU and GPU found on-chip in the APU) to sufficiently execute intensive post processing algorithms. In addition, the OpenCL-based SimHD is now upgraded with new features, De-Noise, Dynamic Lighting, and frame rate conversion, which allows users to enjoy a smoother and more vivid playback on upscalled videos. TotalMedia Theatre 5 with OpenCL support is now available for press evaluation, and will be available for public early Q3.

OpenCL-based H.264 encoder allows media files to be more quickly transferred to mobile devices using ArcSoft Mediaconverter 7; HD videos can be simultaneously exported to files, transferred to devices, or authorized to discs using ArcSoft ShowBiz 5.

Coming soon, ArcSoft Webcam Companion 4, which provides fun web camera experience, and Panorama Maker 6, a powerful photo and video stitching software, will also integrate OpenCL technology.

“ArcSoft works closely with AMD to satisfy today’s high expectations from PC users,” said George Tang, ArcSoft's Vice President and General Manager of Video and Home Entertainment Group. “By optimizing our applications with AMD’s latest A-Series APU technology, ArcSoft offers the ultimate HD video experiences with unsurpassed speed and quality.”

“PCs powered by our A-Series APUs pack the features needed to become a popular choice among shoppers who demand vivid HD and outstanding performance,” said John Taylor, director, Client Product and Software Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “Coupled with the popular TotalMedia Theatre, MediaConverter and ShowBiz applications from ArcSoft, consumers can expect a brilliant visual computing experience on the latest PCs powered by AMD A-Series APUs.”
